Cuilan's Input....

Getting back to field investigations, let me go on to explain what Phase I (Identification) consists of. This is the assessment phase. This phase determines the presence or sometimes even the absence of an archaeological site. This involves historical research/background documentation, environmental context review, and field inspection/walkover survey. This walkover/locational survey is done to identify potential material culture deposits and test pit sampling/subsurface testing is employed to confirm. A written report indicating the results of the above is then completed with recommendations for further research.
